Before the imperative of scale: Selected works from the TWMA collection
Featuring works by the giants of modernism of the 1950s and 1960s the exhibition explores a period when Australian artists tended to produce works on a smaller scale. Viewing these works it is obvious to see those artists who painted together; the crucial shift from figuration to abstraction is evident, and themes peculiar to the time, like the ubiquitous 1950s hat, can be identified.
