Duality

The 2011 Banyule Award for Works on Paper – explorations of two sides in the real or imagined world.

Banyule City Council is delighted to announce the winner for Duality - The 2011 Banyule Award for Works on Paper, this year themed around the open concept of Duality: explorations of two sides in the real or imagined world.

The $4000 Acquisitive Award was presented to Sophia Szilagyi for her work ‘Courage’. The judges were impressed by the visual density of the work and the general air of mystery that it beholds, ‘blending historical illusion with a sense of modernity’. The judges noted that this work is ‘wonderfully sinister, majestic, and presents a dramatic cinematic quality’. Three artists were also highly commended for their work: Jazmina Cininas, Simon MacEwan and Adam Simmons.
