2 December to 17 October
Australian nurses have been going to war for over one hundred years. This exhibition explores their vital, though often overlooked, contribution to Australia’s overseas military operations.
Geoffrey Mainwaring’s portrait of Sister Cherry Wilson, Royal Australian Naval Nursing Service, explores a new glamorous look for women in the 1940s, that of curled hair, red lipstick and uniforms.
This work and others produced under the Official War Art Scheme, by artists such as Nora Heysen and Arthur Streeton, will be on display as part of the Nurses: From Zululand to Afghanistan exhibition.
