FASCINATED
Tim Handfield has been defining Australian colour photography since the 1970’s. His work first entered the Horsham Art Gallery Collection in 1978; we are pleased to present highlights of his In Camera series in 2012. Coming hot on the heels of his successful survey exhibition Deep Skin at the Monash Gallery of Art, FASCINATED allows us to look again and understand our Collection better as we redefine the Horsham Regional Art Gallery through our redevelopment project.
“In a list of these views, there are no panoramas, no long shots. Most are close and medium. But many are also both, which makes another point about seeing closely and in depth. Tim’s is a penetrating view, not a flattening field nor a nauseating close-up, but shuttling between the front and back of a streetscape, an exploratory, searching and restless view, a spreading focus which eventually envelops all and exposes an underlying formal structure to appearances, in a compelling latent geometry.” Start Koop, 2007
